Happy 2015 everyone! It’s crazy to think about it being 2015 right? 2014 was my first year living not at home, living with T and Posy, and making a whole lotta new friends. :) One being, the very talented, Allie Burns. She’s my next Creative Folks for you all. She’s the gal that invited me to our first photo get together this past Spring. She is AMAZING at what she does. She’s bubbly, super nice, and take great photos.
The most recent get together was this past week in the snow. That’s right…the freezing ass snow. :) But you know what? While walking with Allie as our fingers and toes froze, we laughed so much about all sorts of things. Then we laughed about how the snow and wind were so cold that our faces would forever be frozen in a smile. Normally I would be complaining about my hurting fingers, but with Allie, I just smiled. She’s contagious, in a good way. :)
Also, before you begin reading about the lovely lady, I just wanted to write that her dog, Poppy, and my cat, Posy, would make an adorable children’s books. Think off all the adventures that Poppy and Posy would have? Cute right? Anyway, welcome Allie to my blog! Thanks for being here!
What is the first significant thing you did this morning?
I kissed my boyfriend good morning and walked my adorable little dog Poppy. :) Walks with Poppy are just the best way to start my morning, no matter what the weather is it’s just nice to be outside in the elements and away from all of the screens.
What inspires you? When are you happiest?
I am inspired by going to new places and meeting funny, genuine people. I have also been really into stand up comedy lately and listening to podcasts hosted by stand up comedians (notably Marc Maron & Ari Schaffir) there is something about the sheer honesty these guys and gals put forth that is extremely relieving to my ears. I had the pleasure of going to see Mike Birbiglia when he was here in May at The Orpheum and it was just the best!
What are you trying to teach yourself right now?
How to trust my instincts and accept my limitations as a human being and not push myself to do absolutely anything and everything (especially in the photography sense) I have recently decided to specialize in lifestyle and family photography which means no longer being a wedding photographer. It was an incredibly hard decision for me but after running myself ragged this summer I knew it was time to make a choice. I am so excited for what 2015 will bring!
What is your favorite memory and what does it say about you?
Wow it’s hard to pick a favorite memory! We got Poppy in 2010 from Adam’s (my boyfriend) mom after she found her abandoned along a highway. I remember first trying to take her on walks it was apparent she hadn’t had much exposure to the outside world she was afraid of absolutely everything, every sound, every other dog. One morning as we were walking a trash truck back fired and she didn’t even flinch I stopped to comfort her and she looked up at me like “why did we stop?” Realizing how far she had come since we had gotten her was extremely rewarding and heartwarming. So that’s a favorite for sure!
Describe one accomplishment you’ve achieved. Describe one challenge that you have faced.
Starting this business is by far my biggest accomplishment. After 5 years I still can’t believe things have worked out the way they have. I feel incredibly lucky to wake up every day and work (from home!) at a job that I am passionate about. It constantly keeps me energized, hungry for knowledge, humble, and creatively fulfilled. A challenge for me has been setting boundaries between work and my personal life. When you work from home it is very easy for those lines to get blurred, I would find myself editing and emailing while friends were over for coffee and realized it was time set some boundaries for when I am on/off the clock.
What is the last thing you did for work?
I put together a blog post for 2015 filled to the brim with photos of all of the gorgeous lifestyle sessions I have had the pleasure of photographing this year. :) I am beyond excited to post it! (read it here)
And just for fun, what animal would you like to experience being for a day?
I think I would like to know what it would be like to be a sea turtle. I am way too afraid of the ocean as human so it would be a great opportunity to explore it!
Thank you again Allie!
