Creative Folks: Amber Rue

A couple of weeks ago, while designing this blog, I asked some friends if they would be interested if I could interview them for a fun little series called Creative Folks. A place where we can get to know other creatives in the area and learn a bit more about them. They all said yes and I got to work on the questions.

Now, let me tell you that I am no writer. I can express myself through photographs and art, but when it comes to words I have to work on it and this blog is going to help me along the way. In the meantime, I checked out two of my favorite bloggers that also doing an interview of creative people and I used a few of their questions. I don’t want you all to think that I came up with all the questions myself. I want to be great at blogging etiquette, so here are their sites: Breanna and Feel & Flourish. These gals are awesome.

Okay, enough with the chit-chat. Let’s get into my first interview with the lovely Amber Rue. I met Amber back in 2011 when I photographed her brothers wedding. And since then, we have both grown in our photography skills and have even met up with other local photographers to learn even more! I love following Amber on social media (links at bottom of this post). Her Instagram feed is off the hook and I have always admired her photographs. Amber, you are one amazing cookie and I am glad to call you my friend. Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions so we can get to know you a bit more. :)

What is the first significant thing you did this morning?

I kissed my husband good morning.

What inspires you? When are you happiest?

Photography has taught me that there is inspiration all around us. From a Kansas sunset to a cup of hot tea, there is beauty in the ordinary. We just have to train ourselves to look for it. I am learning daily to be in the moment, and to let every day life inspire me.

I am the happiest with my family. We are a crazy bunch who laugh way too loud and way too often.

What are you trying to teach yourself right now?

I am trying to teach myself how to be a parent. My husband, Caleb, and I are expecting our first baby in February (ahhh!), and I have spent my time reading books, pinning cute nursery themes, and praying hard for God to prepare us and help me not to panic about this huge new adventure.

What is your favorite memory and what does it say about you?

Wow, most favorite? I’m not sure I can narrow it down! How about a recent most favorite… Last year, Caleb and I celebrated five years of marriage by taking a road trip to the Northwest coast. On our anniversary, we had a picnic on Canon Beach as we watched the sun set. This trip was a combination of my favorites….adventures, the ocean, and most of all, my bff, Caleb.

Describe one accomplishment you’ve achieved. Describe one challenge that you have faced.

Four years ago, I took a leap of faith and quit my day job at the bank so that I could focus on my new photography business. Trusting God with this was a big challenge, but one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. With time, prayers, and the support of my husband and my coworker/sister, Julia, Jade Street Photography has grown and flourished.

And just for fun, what animal would you like to experience being for a day?
