Hello kittens! I am quite excited to share photos and stories from my trip to Portland, Oregon over Valentine’s weekend. I went with my boyfriend, and two of my best friends, Chelsea and Travis. We had a blast and I have soooo many photos to share with you, that I am going to write 7 blog posts. That’s right, 7. I figured I would do each day we were there and a recap/thoughts after I came back. So, you ready? Let’s start with Day 1.
I should start with why we went to Portland. I have always wanted to visit, and T and I had talked about going on vacation sometime in 2016 together, but hadn’t picked dates to go. A few months ago, while talking with Chelsea about how we wanted to go, she was like, “I’ve wanted to visit there too!” She and Travis were thinking of possibly moving there and thought a vacation there would give them a chance to check it out (and inevitably fall in love with that amazing city). :) So, last December we decided on dates to go, and bought our tickets. It made sense for us 4 to go, to save on transportation (car rental), hotel, etc.
Boom…plane tickets bought (much cheaper to go in the winter than summer fyi), hotel picked out (a good friend of ours had the hook up with a hotel room for us. Thanks B!), and we were super ready to go visit the beautiful state of Oregon. We left on a Thursday morning, flew thru Denver, hop skip and a jump later and we made it to Portland! We were all very excited to finally be here. We got our rental car, drove out to Hillsboro to our hotel, put our stuff in the room, then went out. We grabbed some grub and headed to Trader Joe’s to get snacks and such for our week ahead of us. We went back to hotel and got ready to drive to downtown Portland for a workshop that Chelsea and I had signed up for. We drove through the forest/housing area and though it was longer, it was quite beautiful. The houses are gorgeous and it was fun driving along the weaving roads. We then made it to the Workshop!
Eek! We were both quite excited to not only visit Work/shop, but to take a class from them too! The class we took was a DIY bath salt scrub and a lip balm.
We got there a bit early so we could check out this adorable store that we had only seen in pictures from their Instagram. It did not let us down. It’s an adorable storefront with flowers outside, goodies inside and the friendliest ladies who own it. I was thrilled!
After we walked around for a bit, the boys left to go explore Portland, while us two girls had ourselves a yummy smelling workshop. hehe.
First up, we made our bath salt scrubs. Chelsea did a vanilla eucalyptus blend.
I choose a lavender rose blend.
Both were delightful.
Even after a long day of traveling, we both were happy to finally be in Portland!
Next up, we made our lip balms. I did a lavender scented one and Chelsea did a eucalyptus one again. What can I say? We like what we like.
We had to melt all of the ingredients before pouring it into our containers. This step was a bit scary for me because I’m not all that great when it comes to hot things and pouring them, but I did alright. :)
Our completed salt scrubs against the adorable black and white floral mural they have in their store.
After the class, we all purused the store and found some awesome goodies. I got a pack of beautiful postcards that I later sent to family and friends. I also got an art print of North Wester/Pacific plants and flowers for a friend, and a notebook for myself.
I geeked out a bit when I saw these floral prints that Nicole Mason photographed. She’s one of my favorite photographers and I felt closer to her when I saw her prints in the shop. Stalkerish much?! lol.
Gah! I wanted to buy one of these planters, but I didn’t want to deal with trying to get it on the plane ride home. :( I instead, took a photo of them. :)
After we were done, the boys came and picked us up, headed downtown to Burnside to eat and ended up at a pizza bar place and ate food until 10ish (and our bodies were telling us it was midnight, darn time change!). After eating we walked back to the car, drove to the hotel and went to bed. Whew! What a long and fun first day in Portland, and it only gets better!
