Hi kitty cats! Day 4 is here and this day just so happened to be Valentine’s Day! Check out the Travel tag for more posts about our Portland Trip. Also check out my Instagram for little insights from the trip too.
This day was a fun one, not one was it Valentine’s Day, but we went on a hike to a waterfall! Love! But the day started with some pick me up smoothies and juices. We went to Juice it Up near our hotel and drank some veggie goodness before our long afternoon of hiking.
We drove out to Bridal Veil falls first, as it was an easier hike, only 2/3 of a mile. Easy peasy.
Oh the greenery! I was amazed at how green it was for February. I can only imagine what it’s like in the other seasons of the year. Going to start planning my next trip. :)
These two sillies just a waving.
It was much rainier out here at the falls, so we got pretty wet.
Rushing water is a favorite sound of mine. Unless you need a restroom, then it’s the worst. And that’s how I felt. ha!
Made it to the waterfall!
Oh, side-note, you might wonder why there aren’t any photos of T and I in any of the blog posts. Well, he doesn’t like his face on the interwebs and I totally respect that. We did get photos taken of us at the waterfalls and throughout the trip, they just aren’t on the internet. End of side-note.
We then drove to Wahkeena Falls and took a photo and proceeded to hike to Multnomah Falls. Only to find out we could of driven there too. ha!
0.6 miles later and we made it to Multnomah Falls!
Two of my favorite people.
We took a handful of photos there at the base of the falls and thought we’d hike up to the bridge. So that’s what we did.
As we got closer to the bridge it got a whole more wet and I was afraid of getting my camera drenched in water (I was ok with the sprays of water happening throughout the rest of the hike, but on the bridge it was crazy wet).
A really cool thing happened while up there, I witnessed a proposal on the bridge. As I was walking through all the people I saw a guy down on one knee and then standing up to hug and kiss the girl he just proposed to. I yelled out a, “Congrats!” but I doubt they heard me over the roaring of the waterfall and the complete bliss they were both in. I love love!
Once over the bridge we thought, “Why not hike up to the top!” And so we did just that.
Turning back to get another shot of the beautiful waterfall.
The zig-zag of a path was kind of steep in some places. I definitely had to stop many times to catch my breath.
But anytime I stopped to catch my breath, it was taken away again by the beauty of this state.
We made it to the top! Wohoo! What a site.
I couldn’t believe that just an hour before we were at the bottom there, then the bridge, and now at the very top. Such a great experience to have done.
We then hiked another 20 minutes or so thinking it was going to wrap around to the Wahkeena Falls, but we had misread the map (that we read at the bottom of the falls) and ended up turning around to walk back the way we came.
And on the way down, I was having some trouble (with the path, the lack of water I drank, and I was hungry) and wonderful Chelsea held my hand we walked down the trail together. She’s seriously the best. So uplifting and encouraging. Just what I need in a friend. :)
So after a two hour hike (of both Multnomah Falls and Wahkeena Falls) we were exhausted, hungry, and very wet. We hoped in the car, drove back to downtown Portland and at at the delicious Prasad.
T, Travis, and Chelsea each got the Chipotle Black Bean Chili, and I got some other delicious meal that I can’t think of the name, but it was so good!
After inhaling our meals (yes, we were that hungry), we went to a Fred Meyer on the way to the hotel so I could buy some stamps and mail the postcards. We also got gas, and I don’t know if you knew this, but in Oregon, you can’t get the gas yourself. It’s against the law. They have workers there to take your card, push the buttons and pump the gas for you. So weird.
By now it’s only 4:30 when we are back at the hotel, but our bodies were ready for some relaxation. We had been so go-go-go all weekend that we needed a break. We were thinking about going to the movies, but decided to stay in and watch the new episode of The Walking Dead. Our fav. :) And it did not disappoint.
After the show, we were hungry again and drove to Veggie Grill for our third and last time to eat there. I love that place so much! It had so many vegan options for us to eat. Ahh! My mouth is drooling as I write this. So we ate yummy food, went back to hotel, journaled and went to sleep. I had the best nights rest after this long and amazing day.
What a great Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend and my friends.
Peace + love, Jaclyn
Rain meter: lots of rain at the falls, not a lot of rain in Portland.
